40th Intercomparison Study Results

Tabular summaries of the results of the 40th LIS are posted here (http://qasac-americas.org/sites/qasac-americas.org/files/40LISResults.pdf).

Based on the 78 reports received for this study, none of the samples leaked or were damaged during shipment. All but 3 of the reports listed the date the samples were received, and 61 (81.3%) labs reported the samples were received in 15 days or less. Shipping delays longer than 15 days are a concern. Below is a graphical summary of the shipping lags. Please inform the QA-SAC manager (manager@qasac-americas.org) of your suggestions on how to shorten these delays (address problems, customs forms, etc.).

Presentations of the results as ring diagrams specific to each laboratory are being prepared. These diagrams are being modified and will be based not only on the distribution of measurements but also on the Data Quality Objectives (DQOs) established by the Precipitation Chemistry Science Advisory Group. DQOs for laboratory measurements and analytical detection limits are listed in Table 1.1 of the Manual for the GAW Precipitation Chemistry Programme (http://qasac-americas.org/publications). You might consult this manual for information about GAW laboratory practices (Chapter 4).
